After an incredible time in Knysna, my journey continued to the picturesque Stellenbosch, a town synonymous with world-class wines, rich history, and breathtaking landscapes. This leg of the trip was a perfect blend of elegant hospitality, cultural immersion, and exhilarating outdoor adventure, all centered on the charming Eendracht Hotel & Apartments.
If you’re dreaming of a trip to the Cape Winelands that combines relaxation with unique experiences, then you’re in the right place! Get ready to discover the magic of Stellenbosch through my eyes, complete with insider tips for your own unforgettable getaway.
Day 1: A Grand Arrival & Historic Charm
The transition from Knysna to Stellenbosch was seamless, and the anticipation for exploring this renowned wine region was palpable. My home for the next few days was the exquisite Eendracht Hotel & Apartments.
Arrival & Check-in at Eendracht Hotel & Apartments: Arriving in Stellenbosch, the first stop was the award-winning Eendracht Hotel & Apartments. This elegant and luxurious establishment is situated right in the heart of Stellenbosch’s oldest part. From the moment I stepped in, I felt the warm, friendly atmosphere. The hotel itself has a rich history, with the original building dating back to 1710. It’s been beautifully reconstructed to remain true to its original architectural style, now boasting 13 en-suite bedrooms and three newly refurbished self-catering units. We were even hosted by the owner, Donovan Comerma!
Traveler’s Tip: Eendracht is perfectly located for exploring Stellenbosch on foot. It’s within walking distance of fantastic restaurants, coffee shops, museums, and art galleries.
Dinner at De Volkskombuis: For our first evening, we dressed up a little for dinner at De Volkskombuis. It was a wonderful introduction to Stellenbosch’s culinary scene. The ambiance was perfect, and the food truly delightful.
Day 2: Art, Serenity & Leisurely Exploration
My second day in Stellenbosch was a beautiful blend of art, tranquility, and a taste of local life.
Breakfast at Senobia’s: Starting the day right is key, and a delicious breakfast at Senobia’s, Eendracht’s on-site restaurant, was the perfect fuel. Senobia’s offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner with daily specials, seasonal food, and traditional South African dishes.
Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden Guided Tour: This was an absolute highlight! We embarked on a sponsored guided tour of the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden. Nestled amidst stunning natural landscapes, the sculptures are powerful and evocative, creating a truly unique outdoor art experience. It’s an incredible space that invites contemplation and appreciation for both art and nature.
Must-Visit: Allow ample time to wander and truly absorb the beauty of this garden. It’s a serene escape.
Homestyle Sunday Lunch at Senobia’s: After the immersive art experience, we returned to Eendracht for a comforting “homestyle” Sunday lunch at Senobia’s. It was exactly what we needed – hearty, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying.
Afternoon at Leisure – Exploring Stellenbosch: The afternoon was dedicated to leisure, and Stellenbosch offers so much to do! I enjoyed exploring the charming shops, and I highly recommend grabbing a cappuccino and pastry at one of the numerous cafes. Visiting the Botanical Gardens is also a lovely option if you have time, or simply relaxing in your beautiful room at Eendracht.
Insider Tip: Don’t be afraid to just wander! Stellenbosch’s streets are charming, and you’ll discover hidden gems.
Light Dinner at Eendracht’s Swimming Pool: The evening offered a relaxed atmosphere with a light dinner served by the swimming pool at Eendracht. The garden patio, with its outdoor splash pool, is a beautiful spot to unwind and enjoy the evening.
Day 3: E-Biking Adventure & Winelands Grandeur
My final day in Stellenbosch was packed with adventure, showcasing the active side of the winelands!
Breakfast & Check-out at Senobia’s: We carb-loaded at breakfast at Senobia’s before checking out. The Eendracht truly makes you feel at home, and I was sad to leave, but excited for the day’s activities. We left our bags safely at reception.
Half-Day E-Bike Ride with Adventure Shop: This was the highlight for the adventurous soul! We met at reception for a half-day e-bike ride with Adventure Shop. As a member of Cape Country Routes, Adventure Shop is a pro-environment business known for pioneering extraordinary wine and bicycle tours since 2000. We cycled 25kms from Stellenbosch to Boschendal via the newly built Idas Valley and Banhoek Conservancy trails with a seasoned guide. The e-bikes made it so enjoyable, allowing us to effortlessly soak in the stunning vineyard landscapes.
Highly Recommend: An e-bike tour is an amazing way to see the winelands without too much effort. Adventure Shop offers various guided bike, e-bike, hiking, and wine tasting adventures.
Lunch at Boschendal Deli: Our incredible e-bike adventure culminated with a delicious lunch at the Boschendal Deli. Boschendal is a renowned estate, and the deli offers fresh, farm-to-table delights. It was the perfect way to refuel and reflect on the stunning scenery we had just cycled through.
Departure for Cape Town: After lunch, we returned to Eendracht to collect our bags. It was time to say goodbye to Stellenbosch, but with a heart full of incredible memories.
